I discovered yoga during my first year of law school at Howard University. A friend recommended I try yoga because I was STRESSED OUT to the max! From then on, I was hooked. The practice has helped me process deep trauma and seen me through multiple physical and personal challenges.
That said, I was deeply bothered by the lack of yoga teachers of color. I found many yoga studios to be lacking any diversity. So I went on to receive my 200-hour certification from the Niroga Institute so that I could help create safe spaces for marginalized communities to learn and practice. I am trained in trauma informed Raja Yoga (the "king" of all yogas) and certified in Yoga for Youth. In 2021 I trained with Master Yirsir Ra Hotep and became certified in Kemetic Yoga as well. I've taught yoga and mindfulness in Oakland public schools, the Alameda County Juvenile Justice Center, and in several yoga studios and community classes throughout Northern California.
I see yoga and mindfulness as not just essential “inner work” in the struggle for social justice, healing and liberation, but as a way to create inner sanctuary so that we are calm and grounded no matter what life throws at us. As I continue to grow and deepen my own practice, I teach so that others may (re)discover their own strength, courage, wisdom and sustaining joy. My intention is to facilitate a transformative experience, guiding students to connect to their own hearts and the ultimate teacher within.
In my life off the mat, you can usually find me exploring the world with my family, in the kitchen whipping up a good meal, grooving to a soulful playlist, vibing with girlfriends, or passionately engaged in my latest interior design project.
